Always a Bridesmaid, Never a Bride

June 22nd, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Vlady Peters Like the best man, in times past, there was no such thing as a bridesmaid who was married herself. The whole object of being a bridesmaid was to eventually achieve the status of becoming a bride herself. A girl who was being constantly solicited to be a bridesmaid, without ever negotiating to the next level of being a bride herself, was deemed to be doing something wrong. After all, she was out there, in front of all those eligibles, so why was she missing out in the bridal sweep stakes? That it seemed inexplicable that a young woman could be so often a bridesmaid without attracting a husband herself, was first noticed in 1917 by composers Fred W Leigh and Charles Collins who between them composed this bridesmaids lament:- Why am I always a bridesmaid, Never the blushing bride? Ding! Dong! Wedding bells Always ring for other gals. But one fine day Please let it be soon I shall wake up in the morning On my own honeymoon. The subject vexed many other brains besides those of the composers. But it was a Company which had been manufacturing Listerine since 1879 that felt it had uncovered the reason for the existence of the eternal bridesmaid. Their findings were made public in the early twentieth century with the revelation of the life of Edna. Edna, it seems, was reaching that dangerous age of thirty, and still an unattached young woman. And as frightening as that was, the most mortifying bit was that year after year, she sat at the bridal table, playing the role of a bridesmaid to all the girls shed attended high school with. Talk about All my friends are getting married. Well, it seemed Mr. Listerine & Co had found the problem. Undiscovered until then, it was one of those delicate things that even your best friend couldnt bring herself to tell you. Fortunately for the world and the bridesmaid - Mr. Listerine & Co had no such scruples and disclosed them for all the world to see. The fact that the Listerine profits rose from $100,000 per year in 1921 to more than $4 million in 1927, would suggest that their revelation made a lot of bridesmaids happy. We Do Know What Causes Autoimmunity!

June 19th, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Heidi Whitaker I am constantly reading and hearing that we don’t know the cause of autoimmune disorders such as lupus, ALS, Fibromyalgia, MS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Chronic Epstein-Barr, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This is not the case at all. I would agree that pharmaceutical companies have not found a cause of autoimmunity that they can do much about. In mainstream medicine, that translates to not knowing much about the disease. However, outside mainstream medicine, we do know A LOT about the cause behind autoimmunity. From my book, “Autoimmunity: It’s Time for Truth; It’s Time to Heal”: “The immune system, like most of the body, requires balance to function properly. T-helper 1 (Th1) cells and T-helper 2 cells (Th2) help regulate the bodys response to foreign invaders. Th1 uses white blood cells to go after viruses and cancer cells. Th2 immune cells use antibodies to go after bacteria. Normally, the body strikes a balance by switching back and forth between Th1 and Th2. In a person with an autoimmune disorder, one dominates and suppresses the other. Trans fats, mercury and other heavy metals, sugar and processed foods, alcohol, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, and stress are part of a modern lifestyle that can disrupt the Th1/Th2 balance. Th1 dominance in women is associated with autoimmunity and recurrent miscarriage in the first trimester of pregnancy. Additionally, children in the autism spectrum tend to be Th1 dominant. Besides autoimmunity, Th2 dominance is characterized by a tendency toward allergies, frequent colds and viral infections, and cancer. Both Th1 and Th2 cells make a protein substance known as cytokines. Cytokines cause inflammation. This inflammation should be a temporary response to injury or infection. Cytokines are a necessary part of our immunity. It is the overproduction (too many) of certain small cytokine molecules that leads to the invasion and inflammation of an organ or body system.” It REALLY is that simple! Sadly, no one who stands to make money from prescriptions to fix the problem will accept or promote that fact that autoimmunity is about malnutrition and toxins reprogramming the immune system to behave in a devastating way. Unfortunately, those who stand to make the most money from denying the truth are the decimators of information. Heidi Whitaker is an author and popular speaker on the topic of nutritional support of autoimmune disease. An advocate for alternative health solutions, she co-founded http://www.healthydivas.com, a resource center for those autoimmune sufferers looking for real answers outside of what conventional medicine can provide. Why You Should Hire a Display Stand

June 15th, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Charles Ferrars If you are attending your first trade show and are unsure about committing cash to purchase customized exhibition stands for what could turn out to be a one-off event then hiring your display stands makes perfect sense. They can also be an ideal, cost effective solution if you are working to a tight budget, as many displays can be tailor made to suit your needs, whatever the dimension of floor space your trade booth has been allocated. Despite the restrictions imposed by budget, giving your trade booth a visually stimulating and eye-catching appearance is easy as there are literally unlimited combinations of displays available for you to choose from. They come in all shapes and sizes and whatever advertising function you need them to perform there are displays that are perfect for the job: - folding & modular stands - poster & clip frames - a-frame signboards - tabletop counters - pop-up systems - literature stands - cable displays - banner stands - workstations - roll-up stands - podiums - plinths For example: roll-up banner stands are suitable for use at any kind of trade show and most are supplied with graphics and a headline, making them an excellent marketing tool. Podiums, plinths and workstations can be extremely useful, especially if your exhibition space is limited. Modular and folding display stands are also a good choice as they are available in a number of sizes - modular displays can be swapped between portrait or landscape formats to fit your available floor space - and professionally exhibit your own graphics, posters and advertising banners. In addition these systems are very lightweight and therefore easily portable. This is another big advantage to renting your trade show stands as they are, generally speaking, easier to erect and dismantle than a purpose built static display system. At the outset renting your display stands makes sound, economic sense and once you have established if exhibiting at trade shows has been a successful marketing exercise then you can look into creating and buying custom display stands for your business. Plastic Surgery Procedures

June 7th, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Angie Tidwell There are many different plastic surgery procedures available to those who would like to alter certain aspects of their bodies. Plastic surgery has been around in some form or another for many years, but has only been in extensive use in the 20th and 21st century. The top three cosmetic surgical procedures in 2004 Liposuction (325,000); nose reshaping (305,000); and breast augmentation (264,000. In addition to these procedures there are many other options for other areas of the body. In this article I plan to explore some of those cosmetic surgery options and give background information on those procedures as well. These numbers clearly show an increasing trend to have cosmetic surgery procedures performed for aesthetic, as well as reconstructive reasons. Well start by exploring the number one plastic surgery procedure, Liposuction. In the last year alone, 325,000 Liposuction procedures were performed on both men and women of all ages and race. Liposuction is a procedure that can help to sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, cheeks, neck, chin and upper arms. Liposuction is not a substitute for regular good diet practices or exercise but rather a further refinement in addition to diet and exercise. Recently a number of new techniques in liposuction have been developed, including the ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique. These new procedures are helping many plastic surgeons to provide their patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times. Not all patients will be able to use the newest techniques but your doctor can discuss which techniques are the best for you based upon your medical history and various other factors. Liposuction is best performed on Normal weight individuals with firm, elastic skin who have excess fat in certain areas of their body. Liposuction carries a greater risk for people with medical problems such as poor circulation, severe lung or heart disease, diabetes, as well as some other conditions not listed. It is always best to let your doctor know your full medical history so that he can accurately assess the correct procedures for your body as well as safely and effectively treat you. In your first consultation, your plastic surgeon will most likely evaluate your health, determine where your fat deposits lie and the elasticity of your skin, and develop a plan that is right for you and your body. Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping, is another commonly performed technique in which the nose is reshaped, altered, or straightened for both reconstructive and aesthetic reasons. This procedure is often used to correct breathing problems in the nasal region as well. There are two options for the incision in this type of plastic surgery, There is open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty is performed by making a small incision across the columella, between the nostrils, in addition to incisions on the inside of your nose. This surgery is often performed in the most complicated cases. In the case of closed rhinoplasty the incision is inside of the nose helping to promote a speedier recovery as well as reducing the amount of swelling. Rhinoplasty can change the shape of your nose by recontouring the underlying cartilage and bone into the desired shape. Plastic surgeons today have the ability to make your nose shorter, longer, thinner, and straighter. Most of the incision in nasal surgery are made internally so there is no visual scarring on the exterior nasal cavity. Healing times vary with the type of incision but healing from nasal plastic surgery generally occurs within a few weeks after surgery. Breast augmentation cosmetic surgery is another very popular procedure and one that has been widely publicized by women around the world. Breast augmentation is surgery to enhance the size or shape of a womans breast for reconstructive or aesthetic reasons. Some of these reasons include, but are not limited to, enhancing the size of the breast for a woman who feels that hers are too small, correcting a difference in breast size, reconstructing the breast after surgery, and a reduced breast volume after pregnancy. Breast size can be increased during surgery by the insertion of an implant behind each breast and can effectively increase the bustline by a cup size or more. All said the best way to know if plastic surgery is for you is to get as much information on the procedure as possible before you make a decision. After all you can never have too much information when it comes to your body, right? More information on Cosmetic Surgery Options can be found on http://www.cosmeticsurgeryreview.com. Marketing A Misunderstood or “Scary” Product or Service

June 1st, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Debbie LaChusa What do you do if your business, product or service is something hardly anyone is aware of or understands? Or worse yet, if it is something they are afraid of or want to avoid? My answer is three-fold. First, focus on the SOLUTION you are providing What is the primary problem your prospects have that you can solve? Do they have pain you can relieve? Do they have an ailment or affliction you can cure? In these cases, you are not selling your “scary” or “misunderstood” product or service, you are selling pain relief or healing. It is imperative you look at what you are selling from your prospects’ perspective and talk about it terms of a solution for them. Second, understand your competitive advantage You must understand how what you sell stacks up against the other options your prospects have. Is it superior? Do the effects last longer? Is it safer? Is it cheaper? The list of questions could go on forever. In the end, you must be able to clearly communicate to your prospects how you can help them in a way no one or nothing else can. This makes your “scary” or “misunderstood” product or service the only logical alternative for them and will help to overcome any obstacles or fear they may have. It simply becomes THE best solution for the problem the have. Third, undertake an educational marketing effort Through your web site, a newsletter or ezine, special reports, tele-seminars and presentations, or other free information products and services, you have an excellent opportunity to educate your prospects about your product or service and to dispel any fears or misconceptions they may have. You may even want to enlist testimonials from satisfied clients. People very often believe what others say about your business more than what you say. If you don’t yet have clients to gather testimonials from, treat some friends or colleagues to your product or service and ask them to provide you with testimonials in exchange. It’s a great way to get your business off to a great start! Fasting To Lose Weight: Don’t Make A Steady Diet Of It

May 29th, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Roy Miller Anybody who tells you that you won’t lose weight if you don’t eat is nuts. If you go without food long enough you’ll die, of course, but you’ll get awfully thin first. So what about fasting to drop some extra pounds before your wedding? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, as long as you don’t go too long. It’s hard to tell exactly how long that is, and when you start seeing negative effects differs for each person. A smarter (and safer) strategy is to cut your caloric intake significantly, while still eating. Maybe you’ve heard of “negative calorie” foods or diets. There’s really no such thing, but the effect can be that your body has far fewer calories to burn, and ends up overdoing it a little. That means your net calories from those foods are negative. Fruits are good for this. Substitute fruit for some of the other stuff you eat that has lots of calories. Don’t dunk the fruit in caramel dip first! You can eat your body weight in apples and still lose weight, especially if they take up the stomach room donuts usually fill. Either fasting or cutting your calories way down is definitely a “crash diet.” Don’t do this too often. You probably can’t keep it up, which means you’re going to cheat, which will keep you from losing weight at all. That defeats your purpose. Always remember, it probably took you years to build up to your current weight. It at least took you months. It’s probably going to take just as long, or longer to lose that weight. Expecting to be thin overnight is like expecting to win the lottery. It happens sometimes, but the odds of drowning in your own bathtub are much higher. Tips To Increase Your Metabolism By Eating Healthier

May 26th, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Andrew Bicknell There is a big problem in the diet industry today. Everywhere you look there is a new book, or infomercial, or diet program that is said to be the latest and greatest way to lose weight. One program says eating carbs is bad while the other says dont eat protein or cut out all the fat. As most weight loss interested consumers know it can get mighty confusing just trying to figure out whose hype to believe. And the fact is most people who try the latest diet or exercise program dont stick with the program and more often than not they not only gain the weight back they actually gain more than they originally started with. Probably the simplest and easiest way to lose weight is to increase your metabolism. So whats the easiest way to get that metabolism increase? The answer is easy because the key to any long term weight loss and then maintaining that weight is eating healthy foods. The first place to start when it comes to eating healthier is the grocery store. While this topic is seldom covered in many of the diet books and programs it only makes sense because thats where we get the majority of our food. The typical grocery store keeps all the processed and junk foods in the center of the store. The healthier foods that you want to load your cart with are found around the perimeter of the store. You know, those fresh fruits and vegetables that your mom was always trying to get you to eat. When it comes to selecting a protein source it is best to go with fresh fish and poultry. You can also get red meat but it is best to eat only lean cuts. Another tip to increase you metabolism is to actually eat more meals per day. Many people who attempt to lose weight actually skip meals but this has the opposite of the desired effect, it can actually lead to a slower metabolism. The normal practice of eating three large meals a day, while not necessarily bad, can leave you feeling bloated and tired afterwards. If you eat 5 or 6 smaller meals over the course of the day you keep your body energized throughout the day which will also help increase your metabolism. If you eat healthy food every three to four hours your bodys metabolism will run at a high rate all day long and you will always feel full and energized, keeping you from snacking on sugary foods. Fresh raw foods are the best when it comes to increasing your metabolism. They are the healthiest foods you can buy and are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber, which all cause the body to burn more energy just digesting them. They are also lower in calories, with most of their energy coming from complex carbohydrates. The thing to remember is if it comes in a box it should be avoided. The last tip when it comes to eating healthier foods is to beware of products that are labeled reduced or low fat. What happens is manufacturers take many of their high fat products and offer a reduced fat version that still contains an ample amount of fat. They will also replace the removed fat with a form of sugar that increases the calories of the product back to its original level. It is important to see how many calories a food product actually contains whether it is reduced fat or not. Another important distinction is the type of calories a food contains. If most of the calories comes from sugar or fat it should be avoided because these types of calories are almost instantly converted to fat stores. Complex carbohydrates on the other hand are more slowly metabolized by the body and actually burn more calories digesting and processing then they contain. By eating healthier and nutrient dense foods you can increase your metabolism significantly. This is not only good for you body as a whole but can also help you to lose weight and keep it off for the long run. Enjoy Your Food

May 17th, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Isabelle Epstein “The joy you feel is life” Greg Anderson We enjoy food and we enjoy having meal with friends and family. Why should we deprive ourselves of such simple pleasures?I am not ashamed to admit I like to eat and I enjoy the food I eat. I like to prepare a meal, it is a pleasure to all my senses, the smells in the kitchen are pleasures to my nostrils and the results are a real feast to the palate. I am not mentioning my love for food to excite you on the subject of cooking. I am mentioning it because eating should be a delightful experience. There is no logical reason why there should be so many kinds of fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts if we were not supposed to eat them, enjoy their taste and be grateful for Mother Nature miracles. I believe the problem is more what we eat and how we eat. We do not eat anymore mostly fresh fruits and vegetables. We eat too much refined and processed foods. All this refinements and processing strip the nutrients from the food. Most of the goodness of our food is gone. Raw foods are richer in nutrients, especially organically grown fruits and vegetables. Cooking at high temperature destroy some of the nutrients such as enzymes and vitamins. I do not believe in diets where you need to count calories and starve yourself. Unless you have a will power of steal, this is doomed to failure. It is against human nature, even your body will rebel. I do not believe in stuffing ourselves either. Food portions should be moderate. Quality food rich in nutrients will satisfy our appetite and will boost our energy. Crash diets are messing with our metabolism. This is the biggest mistake to avoid if you wish to lose weight. Our body is very efficient and very sophisticated. If the body feels that the quantity and the quality of the food we eat is not sufficient for its daily functions, it will automatically adjust itself and the body will presume starvation time has arrived. Because food is in short supply the body will slow down its metabolism. The body will store fat for lean times. The body will shift to survival mode. It will use less calories and burn less fat. You will achieve exactly the opposite result than you hoped for because your body will adapt to the lower food intake. Until proper quantity and quality of food is eaten, the lower calorie diet will become the norm. Your body will fight back and will not permit any weight loss. Why aren’t most diets giving any permanent results? From my experience diets: Lack the proper nutrients which food should provide to satisfy your hunger and feed your body. Do not address the psychological side of weight loss. Lack self motivation. Do not correct our eating habits. They can be very frustrating. It should be a holistic approach. It should nourish both our body and our soul. While our body size decreases not only our body size changes but we as a person change as well. It is a body and mind change. It should be a life style change. We need to fuel our body with proper food. Our body needs food rich in nutrients, the nutrients that feed our cells, the nutrients that will help heal our body of any deficiency. We need to enjoy our food and to nourish our body at the same time. We need a balanced nutrition that avoids refined and processed foods. We need more fresh vegetables, whole food and grains. We need food grown without chemicals and pesticides, without hormones and antibiotics. We need fresh fish rich in omega-3. We need fresh lean meat, organically grown if possible. Before starting any weight loss program, it would be wise to visit a health professional and make a few tests to check if you have any nutrients deficiency or any hormone imbalance or any other health issue that could be the reason of your weight gain. First Date Tips

May 14th, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Ron Zvagelsky This article aims to help you understand what to do on your first date while avoiding the common pitfalls that cause many singles to end up alone. You could think of a date like a job interview. You don’t have a lot of opportunities to get it right, and once you mess up, you may not have another chance to leave a good impression. The very first thing you will want to do on a date is be yourself. I will modify my last statement by saying “you should be yourself at your best.” This means that you don’t want to talk about any weaknesses or insecurities you may have. You will want to act normally, and avoid trying to be someone you aren’t. If your date asks for your opinion on something, tell them what you think instead of what you think they want to hear. The next thing you will want to do is listen carefully to what your date is saying. Not only will this allow you to learn a lot about them, but you will also show that you care about what they are saying. This doesn’t mean that you should be quiet throughout the entire date. It just means that you should talk less and listen more. One of the primary things you will want to avoid is drinking too much alcohol. Getting drunk can allow you to behave in a way that is immature or inappropriate, and it should be avoided at all costs. There is nothing wrong with drinking champagne or a glass of wine on a date, but you don’t want to do it too much. In addition to drinking, talking about yourself too much is another way to kill the date. Talking too much about yourself shows that you are egotistical and in some case, may even be considered rude. In addition to this, you will send across a message that you are not interested in what the other person has to say. The last most important thing that you will want to avoid is dressing inappropriately or not demonstrating proper manners. If you are going to a nice restaurant, you will want to wear the proper attire. Use your eating utensils properly, and try to avoid talking with your food in your mouth. Practicing good etiquette beforehand can also go a long way. Ron Zvagelsky has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. Where The Bassalo Roam

May 9th, 2008 by chrissiewitney

By Charles White Have you ever thought why fishing timbers is so productive? Well, for one, most anglers don’t want to fish them because they’re afraid of losing a $5.00 lure. This makes it better for us that are willing to take the risk. Sure, you get those who will throw a spinnerbait on the top of the timber but the fish are in the timber. You need to throw crankbaits or pitch a tube or jig to catch the fish. Most of the fish never see a spinnerbait. Also everyone knows that the bass will use that cover to break free if they can, again losing a lure in some cases. So, how do you know where to fish in a lake full of trees? Well, you don’t pay attention to the trees to start with and look for structure below the surface. Creek channels are a good place to start. They are the freeways for bass. Look for points, road beds and bends. In the spring look for spawning areas. So, the first step in fishing trees is to use your topo map and depth finder. Once you fish an area throughly, then use the map and depth finder to find other places like where you caught fish. You will want to pay attention to the season too, different patterns for different seasons. Find cover that hold a variety of cover not just one type. Trees that have vegetation nearby, different types of trees, trees by drop-offs are are good places to fish. If you have all standing timber and see one tree laying down in the water, then by all means fish the laydown throughly. Pine trees aren’t really a good place to start, maybe they give off a scent but bass don’t seem to like them very well. On the other hand cedar and oak are both good trees to fish. Try fishing with a squared lipped crankbait that will reflect and have erratic movement when it hits something. Try flippin and pitchin a jig or tube. Get down to where the fish are, if you’re not getting hung up, then you probably aren’t where the fish are located. Once you start catching fish in timber then pay attention to the depth you catch the fish at, most of the time they stay in the same depth range in timber. Fish timber, it’s productive, find the bottom structure you need and get down to where the fish are. Charles has fished for bass for almost 50 years. He has fished from Florida to California and has caught more than 6,000 bass in his lifetime. His biggest bass is 12 pounds 14 ounces. Charles has owned two tackle stores in his lifetime.
